Heavy rain predicted on second day of Durga puja in Kolkata

Heavy rain forecasted in the four days of Durga puja. Due to the low-pressure axis created over the Bay of Bengal, there are chances of heavy rain in South Bengal. Warnings have already been issued in many districts of West Bengal. The district administration has asked the puja committee members to take precautionary measures so that the pandals does not get destroyed.

Due to the low-pressure axis created over the Bay of Bengal, there are chances of heavy rain in South Bengal. Several parts of the south and south-east, including Kolkata, will receive heavy downpour during the puja days. As a result, people of West Bengal have to sit at home and enjoy puja virtually. 

Warnings have already been issued in the southern districts. The district administration has asked the puja committee members to take precautionary measures so that the pandals does not get destroyed.

Due to low pressure, light to moderate rains has started in different parts of the state. On Friday (October 23) afternoon, low-pressure axis will be strengthened in the coastal areas of Bangladesh and West Bengal. Tourists visiting the coastal areas during these days are asked not to stay near the seashore. Fishermen are being alerted by helicopter in the area adjacent to Digha. 

Due to this low-pressure axis, there will be more or less rainfall in every district of South Bengal. However, heavy rainfall is likely in North 24 Parganas and South 24 Parganas. Similarly, rain is also forecasted in Kolkata, Howrah, Hooghly, and Nadia. The speed of the wind can be 50 kilometers per hour.

There are chances of depression in the next 24 hours. According to the Kolkata Alipore Weather Department, the rain will continue till the end of Durga puja.
