Uttar Pradesh is a crucial state for national politics as it has 80 Lok Sabha seats out of the total 543 seats in the Parliament of India. Therefore this state’s assembly election garners much interest and also pulls all the national parties to give in their best.

From national Congress Party and BJP to the regional Samajwadi Party to Bahujan Samaj Party everyone brings out their ace of spades to campaign for the candidates and gain more support among the voting population.

This is the time when Priyanka Gandhi also takes on the stage in UP and tries to consolidate Congress Party’s stand in the state. Her presence no doubt creates a lot of buzz among the voters as well as the whole of India as otherwise, she prefers staying away from politics.

However, this year her first election rally speech in Raebareli failed to impress anyone and rather she appeared to be a splitting image of her brother, Rahul Gandhi. Lot of her comments on PM Narendra Modi backfired and tech savvy people took to Twitter to comment on her unimpressive speech and digs at the PM.

On the other hand, Congress’ election ally Samajwadi Party’s Dimple Yadav has emerged as the game changer at this assembly election. She has become the star campaigner for this alliance and her less aggressive ideal demure is being loved and appreciated by voters. Wife of Akhilesh Yadav and a daughter of an army officer and mother of three, her ideal Bahu image is helping Samajwadi Party gain an edge over its oppositions.

Here are the five reasons why Dimple Yadav is a star campaigner, and Priyanka Gandhi needs to up her game.

1.    Dimple is the second-term Member of Parliament from Kannauj, and in 2012 she was elected unopposed which is the fourth such occurrence in UP since independence. On the other hand, Priyanka Gandhi has always played the role of campaigner and yet to make a full-fledged entry into politics.

2.    She takes care of the social media activities of the Yadav family and has been the driving force to revamp Samajwadi Party’s public image as well as created much sympathy for Akhilesh before this ongoing elections.

Also after the much published Yadav family feud before the elections, Dimple Yadav was able to turn around things in favour of her husband while keeping the family intact. Akhilesh Yadav publicly acknowledged her importance in his political career. Whereas, Priyanka is not actively involved in Congress Party activities.

3.    Dimple Yadav is a crowd puller at the rallies, and people in the state comes to hear her deliver though less politically aggressive yet effective speeches. Especially among female voters, she has created an image of an ideal family oriented politician. Her public image has helped SP to find its political as well as cultural ideal. Priyanka Gandhi is an elite political figure and this time she failed to deliver an effective speech.

4.    A state where the assembly elections are driven by either caste or religion, Dimple Yadav has been able to appeal to the female voters who can relate to her simplicity and presence is more impactful than Priyanka Gandhi’s occasional visits to the state.

Also, the Congress Party’s campaign mostly involves speeches accusing the opposition in the centre and fails to address the grass root issues of the state.

5.    Dimple Yadav is not yet a political figure with perfect speeches and a roaring voice. She focuses on highlighting her husband’s achievements as a CM, addresses issues that concern the common person in UP, keeps her speeches short and to the point and is easily relatable to the people. Her not-so-perfect political persona has added colours to SP’s otherwise uneventful election campaign.
