Indian Railways: Missed Your Train? Here’s What You Need to Know!
Many of us have missed a train for some reason or the other. If you have a reserved ticket and miss your train, what should you do? Can you use that ticket to board another train? Will you get a refund? Let's check what the railway rules say.

Can you board another train with the same ticket if you miss yours?

That ticket is not valid
What if you have a general ticket?
The situation is a bit different for an unreserved or general ticket. A passenger with a general ticket might be able to travel on other passenger trains or trains with general coaches going on the same route. However, this also depends on the date and destination mentioned on the ticket. A general ticket is usually valid for a specific period (around 3 hours). So, if you board another train within that time frame on the same day, you might not face a problem.

Will you get a refund?
Here's another thing to know. If you cancel your ticket before the train departs, you get a refund after some charges are deducted. But after the train has departed, a reserved ticket usually falls into the 'no refund' category. However, in some special circumstances, you can file a TDR (Ticket Deposit Receipt) to claim a refund. A TDR is useful in cases where the train was heavily delayed, there were coach issues, or you couldn't travel due to railway-related reasons.
