The total coronavirus cases rose to 71,75,881 with 55,342 infections being reported in a day, while the death toll reached 1,09,856 after 706 people succumbed to the disease in a span of 24 hours, the data updated at 8 am showed.
The total recoveries surged to 62,27,296 in the country, pushing the nation's recovery rate to 82.14%.
The COVID-19 case fatality rate was recorded at 1.53%. There are 8,38,729 active cases in the country, the data stated.
According to the ICMR, a cumulative total of 8,89,45,107 samples have been tested up to October 12 with 10,73,014 samples being tested on Monday.
The global tally of coronavirus cases stands at 38,029,249. While 28,587,949 have recovered, 1,085,092 have died so far. The US, the worst-hit country, has 8,037,789 cases. It is followed by India, which has 7,172,559 cases, Brazil (5,103,408) and Russia (1,312,310).
