Karuppu becomes Suriya’s biggest hit in India

RJ Balaji’s action thriller Karuppu has emerged as the highest-grossing film of Suriya in India. The film crossed the Rs 100 crore mark domestically within six days, collecting Rs 105.35 crore net at the Indian box office.

With this achievement, Karuppu overtook Suriya’s earlier top domestic grosser, Singam 2, which had earned around Rs 98 crore in India. The film’s strong performance has also cemented its place as the highest-grossing Tamil film of 2026 so far.

The movie, directed by RJ Balaji and co-starring Trisha Krishnan, has managed to maintain double-digit collections every single day since release, despite weekday drops.

Day-wise collection shows strong audience pull

Karuppu earned Rs 10.30 crore on Day 6 across more than 6,000 shows nationwide. While the numbers dipped slightly compared to Tuesday’s Rs 12.75 crore, the film continues to dominate theatres with solid occupancy.

Its biggest boost came during the weekend. The film collected Rs 28.35 crore on Sunday, marking its highest single-day total till now. Saturday had also delivered an impressive Rs 24.15 crore after an opening day collection of Rs 15.50 crore.

Interestingly, the film’s release journey was not smooth initially. Karuppu faced last-minute show cancellations due to pending dues involving the production house, Dream Warrior Pictures. However, once the issues were resolved, curiosity among fans only increased, helping the film generate massive footfalls in cinemas.

Worldwide earnings march towards Rs 200 crore

Karuppu is not just dominating in India but also performing exceptionally well overseas. The film added another Rs 3 crore internationally on Wednesday, taking its overseas total to Rs 54 crore.

Combined with domestic earnings, the worldwide gross collection now stands at Rs 175.96 crore. The film has comfortably surpassed the global lifetime collection of Singam 2, making it Suriya’s highest worldwide grosser ever.

If the current momentum continues over the coming weekend, Karuppu is expected to cross the Rs 200 crore mark globally. This would make it the first film in Suriya’s career to enter the prestigious Rs 200 crore club worldwide.
