Bollywood star Aamir Khan has announced the sequel to Rajkumar Hirani's 3 Idiots, which will follow Rancho, Farhan, and Raju a decade later.

Three Idiots, starring Aamir Khan, R Madhavan, Sharman Joshi, and Kareena Kapoor Khan, was released in 2009 and remains one of the most beloved and impactful films to date. The coming-of-age drama, directed by Rajkumar Hirani, captivated viewers of all ages with its novel perspective on the educational system, friendship, and the pursuit of passion above societal expectations.

The film, featuring unforgettable performances, memorable dialogue, and beautiful music, continues to have high rewatch value. Fans have long been anticipating a sequel, and new claims regarding 3 Idiots 2 have further fuelled their enthusiasm.

Aamir has now announced the second chapter, explaining that the plot would pick up a decade later with Rancho, Farhan, and Raju.

While chatting with Amar Ujala, Aamir Khan revealed facts about the sequel. He indicated that he had heard the narrative and finds it "wonderful." The actor stated that Raju is now working on 3 Idiots 2. I have heard the story, and it is fantastic." Aamir said, "The writing still needs some work, but the story itself is incredibly good—unusual, with the same humour as the previous film. It picks up ten years after the events of Three Idiots.

Aamir expressed delight about reprising his role as Phunsukh Wangdu. He stated, "It's a lovely narrative created by Raju and Abhijat. I'm looking forward to playing Phunsukh Wangdu again."

Aamir was slated to reconnect with Rajkumar Hirani for a movie about Dadasaheb Phalke. However, the actor has acknowledged that the project is on hold owing to writing difficulties. 

Meanwhile, Aamir is reported to play Ashneer Grover in his biography. Recently, various stories have appeared about the project, claiming that the celebrity has expressed interest. Shraddha Kapoor will allegedly play the female protagonist, while Rahul Mody, her lover, will direct the film. However, the formal announcement has yet to be made.

Currently, Aamir is promoting his son Junaid Khan's flick Ek Din. The film, starring Sai Pallavi, is set to be released on May 1.
