'Visaranai' is India's official entry to Oscars 2017

After getting critical acclaim for Tamil film Visaranai, now the crew has something to really feel international about- the film has been selected as official entry from India to the Oscars.

 

The film is based on police brutality and corruption. At the 63rd National Film Awards which was held in New Delhi, the film won three honours: Best Feature Film in Tamil, Best Supporting Actor for Samuthirakani and Best Editing for Kishore Te. Visaranai stars actors like Dinesh, Anandhi and Aadukalam Murugadoss in the lead roles. 

 

Dhanush's Wunderbar Productions has produced the film. An excited Dhanush posted a tweet congratulating actors Samuthrakani, Dinesh Kishore and the entire crew of Visaranai.

 

 

Visaranai is based on M. Chandrakumar’s book Lock Up. The movie has already earned international accolades, including at the 72nd Venice Film Festival, before its release.

 

According to the Hindu, the movie was chosen out of 29 contenders, said secretary-general of Film Federation of India Supran Sen.

 

The other Kollywood films to be officially selected in the past for the Academy Awards are Jeans, Indian, Kurithipunal, Devar Magan, Anjali, Nayagan, Deiva Magan.  

 

 

The 89th Academy Awards event is scheduled to take place in February 2017 in Los Angeles.
