The 56-year-old Padma Shri awardee has also bagged four National Film Awards, and multiple state as well as international awards for his contribution to Indian cinema.

 

After wooing Malayalam audiences with his mind blowing performances for close to three decades, the Mollywood superstar has declared that he will retire from the cinema after completing a humongous project.

 

In a talk show, the superstar said that he is all set to start the work on his 2014 project Randamoozham. The movie will be made with a whopping budget of ₹ 600 crores! 

 

Yes, that’s right! Well, from the looks of it, we finally have a movie that will beat Baahubali and 2.0’s budget. 

 

To confirm this news, there was an another report published in Manorama where Mohanlal said he would be leaving cinema “in a few years” after wrapping up an ambitious project Randamoozhan to be made on a whopping budget of ₹600 crore. The project is likely to hit the floors in next year. The movie will be based on a novel of the same name by M T Vasudevan Nair. The story is based on the epic Mahabharata from Bhima’s perspective.

 

Various reports also confirmed the rest of the cast that includes, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan as Draupadi, Amitabh Bachchan as Bheeshma, Vikram as Arjuna, even Nagarjuna was to play a lead role. AR Rahman was to handle the music, while Baahubali art director Sabu Cyril was to hop on board as well. 

 

In the same report, there was a hint about Mohanlal retirement; he said, "Within a few years I will take a decision regarding the retirement.” 

 

Mohanlal had a great 2016 with his Pulimurgan and Oppam that turned out to be his career best films that shook the Mollywood box office and shattered many records. 

 

Pulimurgan became the highest grossing Malayalam film of all-time. The movie raked in about ₹130 crore at the worldwide box office.

 

Currently, he is busy shooting for 1971 – Beyond Borders, the movie is reportedly part of the Major Mahadevan series. Mohanlal will soon be a part of another director’s debut, the shooting of which will begin this January. Also, Mohanlal’s Munthirivallikal Thalirkkumbol is yet to released!
