Sridevi's demise: Sridevi's body will be brought to India on private jet

Bollywood superstar Sridevi, considered by many to be one of the biggest names in Hindi cinema, died after suffering a cardiac arrest in Dubai, her family told PTI.

According to a report published in Khaleej Times, a source in the Indian Consulate in Dubai revealed that the actress passed away in her hotel room in the Emirates Towers, Dubai at 11 pm on February 24.

The report says she fainted in her hotel bathroom and was instantly rushed to Rashid Hospital in Dubai. Sridevi was brought dead to the hospital, claimed the hospital staff. 

Around 1.30pm the body was handed over to the Kapoor family after completion of legal and administrative procedures, including cancellation of passport, immigration formalities, and getting permission from the public prosecutor at Bur Dubai Police station.

 

Now the family is waiting for the actress' death certificate and a few other documents.

Several Indian fans living in Dubai have gathered at the Dubai Forensic Centre to pay their respects to the late actor.

Vipul, Consul General of India in Dubai, said, "We are working with the Dubai Police to expedite the procedure to repatriate her (Sridevi) body to India."

Earlier, Indian Ambassador to the UAE, Navdeep Singh Suri, tweeted his condolences to the family stating, "Absolutely shocked to get the report about the untimely demise of #Sridevi. Conveyed my condolences to the family. Our consulate in Dubai is working with local authorities to provide all possible assistance."
