Kolkata: Veteran actor Soumitra Chatterjee's physical condition has deteriorated in the last 48 hours. He has been put on ventilator after his health deteriorated. West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee paid a visit to the hospital on Tuesday (October 13) afternoon.

The chief minister is anxious to know the current physical condition of Soumitra Chatterjee. 

The critically acclaimed actor was admitted to hospital on October 6 after he tested positive for COVID-19. He had to be shifted to ITU as his condition turned critical. A team of 15 doctors is overseeing him at the hospital.

Soumitra Chatterjee has been running a high fever since Sunday (October 11) afternoon. The sodium-potassium level in his body has also decreased.

Doctors have kept him on invasive ventilation. Giving invasive ventilation means that there is a risk of more side effects in the body. However, doctors are wondering if he can tolerate the ventilation.

A team of 15 doctors is overseeing Soumitra Chatterjee at the hospital. He has also had two blood tests since morning. The COVID Test will be held again tomorrow (October 14).
