Ramya had recently visited Islamabad for a meeting of young parliamentarians from SAARC and upon her return the actress praised Pakistan for their hospitality and warmth.
The actress refuted Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar’s "going to Pakistan is like going to hell" claim by saying, “Pakistan is not hell. People there are just like us. They treated us very well."
Soon after she made the statement, the actress was slapped with a sedition case by a lawyer in Karnataka. Ever since her pro-Pak statement, the actress has also been facing ire on social media by outraged trolls.
The actress has refused to apologise for her comment saying, "I will not apologise as I have done nothing wrong. I am entitled to my views and that is what democracy is about. I am not anti-national."
Reacting to the uproar, Congress' Dinesh Gundu Rao has come out in support of Ramya. Rao said, "There's nothing wrong with Ramya's statement. I stand by her."
The lawyer, Katnamane Vittal Gowda, has filed a sedition case against her in a court in southern Karnataka. The case will be heard on Saturday.
