Most of the superstars have hosted the Bigg Boss show, with Bollywood actors like Salman Khan, South heroes like Kamal Hassan in Tamil, Kiccha Sudeep in Kannada,  and Jr NTR in Telugu. Mahesh Manjrekar in Marathi and Mithun Chakraborty in Bangla too shot to fame on the small screen.

Now, Mohanlal himself officially announced that he would host Bigg Boss Malayalam, which will be aired on Asianet from June. There were rumours like Mammootty, and Suresh Gopi were also considered for the role.

Bigg Boss Malayalam would be Mohanlal's second TV program as he had earlier hosted a talk show titled 'Lal Salaam'.

Mohanlal said that he had done many exciting things in his 38 years of cinema life including theatre performances and stage shows. But he has never been part of a big reality show like Bigg Boss, and this is the first time that he has got such an opportunity. That's why he is so excited about this project.

He also talked about significant features of Bigg Boss and the importance of psychological approach used in the show because there will be people of different attitudes and mindset. The format and concepts of Bigg Boss were adopted from Big Brother, a Dutch TV series created by producer John de Mol in 1997.

Bigg Boss Malayalam will have 16 contestants, who will stay in the Bigg Boss house for 100 days. The name of the contestants is yet to be revealed. There will be eliminations from the house each week. The person who manages to stay until the end will be the winner of the show.
