Hema Malini birthday: Now an owner of assets worth crores, actor was made fun of for her sarees

Bollywood's ‘Dream Girl’ veteran actor-turned-politician, Hema Malini has given many superhit films in her career. Most of these films have become cult classics that are loved even today. Apart from ruling the film industry for over decades, the veteran actor has also become one of the finest politicians in the country.

Hema Malini is an actor par excellence. Throughout the years of her career as an actor, and then as a politician, she has become an owner of assets worth crores of rupees. According to a report, Hema Malini has assets worth more than Rs 440 crore. There was a point in time when the actor was not only known for her acting skills but also for sarees.

During an old interview, Hema Malini had told that her mother Jaya Chakravarthy always used to make her wear a traditional saree. Many times she also tried to protest, but all in vain. She further revealed that several wives of filmmakers used to laugh at the Kanjeevaram saris that Hema Malini used to wear.

Recalling one such incident, Hema Malini said that the Punjabi wives of many filmmakers in the older days used to make fun of her Kanjeevaram saree. She said that seeing her wear the traditional South saree, they used to poke fun at her saying that the ‘Madarasan’ has come.

Speaking further about her mother in the old interview, Hema Malini said that it was her (mother) who encouraged her to learn classical dance. She also said that whatever height she has achieved in her career, is because of her mother’s support and encouragement, adding that had she not learnt classical dance, she would not have achieved all of it.

Furthermore, Hema Malini revealed another interesting aspect of her life. She said that even before she was born, her mother had already decided to name her ‘Hema’. She also said that before her birth, her mother had placed photos of Goddesses Durga, Saraswati and Lakshmi in the bedroom.
