In an interview with a Tamil magazine, the actress said, "The separation from my husband was saddening and making the decision for a divorce was hard."
She also said, “I can’t say whether it was a good or bad decision, but was very painful for me”.
Amala said that it was a tough phase in her life where she could not make out if it was a good or a bad decision. However, she pointed out that it was an excruciating process.
Amala also said that both Vijay and herself had gone through many tough phases in their marital life and later decided on divorce. She added, "A lot of people unnecessarily interfered in our matter."
She has now moved on and is enjoying her personal and professional life.

She is currently busy with a few films in her kitty including Thiruttu Payale 2, Bhaskar Oru Rascal and Cinderella. Her last release was the Dhanush starrer Velaiilla Pattadhari 2, which was directed by Soundarya Rajinikanth.
Amala Paul and director AL Vijay reportedly met on the sets of Deiva Thirumagal, and later got married on June 12th, 2014 at the Mayor Ramanathan Chettiar Hall in Chennai. The couple filed for divorce in 2016 and was granted a divorce in February 2017.
