Former Indian batting legend Rahul Dravid is in the headlines of late, as he would be coaching Team India in its upcoming limited-overs tour of Sri Lanka, starting next month. Regular head coach Ravi Shastri will be in England with the main side ahead of its five-Test series for the Pataudi Trophy in August.

While it would be Dravid's first stint as India's head coach, the reigning National Cricket Academy head coach has already coached the India A and U-19 side before. Notably, he had a specific mantra for every player going on a tour. What was it?

"I tell them upfront, if you come on an A tour with me, you will not leave here without playing a game. I've had that personal experience myself as a kid: going on an A tour and not getting an opportunity to play is terrible. You've done well, you scored 700-800 runs, you go, and you don't get a chance to show what you're good at. And then, you're back to square one from the selectors' point of view, because the next season you have to score those 800 runs again," he told ESPNcricinfo's 'The Cricket Monthly'.

"It is not easy to do that, so there is no guarantee you'll get a chance again. So, you tell people up front: this is the best 15 and we are playing them. This is not about the supposed best XI. At U-19, we make five-six changes between games if we can," he added.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India would be sending in a second-string side to Lanka, with the senior Indian team stationed in England. However, even the second Indian side is equally competent as the main side, and Dravid has played a vital role in producing a superior reserve squad that would upset even the senior side of its opponents.

The Lanka tour kick starts with the ODIs, to be played on July 13, 16 and 18, followed by the T20Is on 21, 23 and 25. All the matches would be played at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.
