IPL 2021: Axar Patel of Delhi Capitals tests positive for COVID-19

Axar Patel is an all-rounder who plays for Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League. He has been playing for DC since 2019, having previously played for Mumbai Indians and Punjab Kings. Overall in the IPL, he has scored 913 runs in 72 games, besides claiming 80 wickets in 96 innings.

Indian all-rounder Axar Patel, who plays for Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League, is the first star player of the tournament to have tested positive for COVID-19. He is now reportedly in doubt for DC's opening clash against Chennai Super Kings on April 10.

As a result of this, Axar has been isolated and will be observed for ten days as part of IPL's COVID protocol. "Unfortunately, Axar has tested positive. He is isolating and all protocols are being followed," a source was quoted as saying to ANI.

Earlier, uncapped batsman Nitish Rana of Kolkata Knight Riders had also tested positive for the same. However, he tested negative on Thursday, following his positive test on March 22 and has joined the KKR camp for pre-season training.

According to IPL's COVID norm, a player has to isolate himself for a minimum period of ten days since being tested positive at a facility outside the team bubble. "During the 10-day isolation, the individual must rest and avoid any exercises. The team doctor should regularly monitor the case. If symptoms worsen during the course of isolation, the individual must be hospitalised immediately," the SOP reads.

As of now, Delhi Capitals, Mumbai Indians, Punjab Kings and Rajasthan Royals are the sides that are holding their camps in the city of Mumbai. Currently, the city has reported having 47,827 new cases, with 202 deaths occurring on Friday, as the day saw 8,832 fresh cases being registered.
