Poll bound Nandyal witnesses high political drama

The situation in poll-bound Nandyal is fast turning into a political thriller of sorts where one can’t predict what will happen next.

From defections from TDP to YSRCP and vice-versa, there is a lot that is happening in Nandyal. Just as Nandyal was coming to grips with the midnight raids at the houses of three Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) Councillors, the kidnapping of defected TDP councillor sent shockwaves in the constituency.

On Saturday, the Nandyal police raided houses of YCP Councillors stating that money has been stacked for distribution during elections. The insecurity of the TDP government and the prestige issue to win the Nandyal by-poll are the root causes behind all these acts.

TDP government has announced crores worth of welfare schemes to the Nandyal constituency and TDP chief and senior leaders are in Nandyal to oversee the campaigning. In spite of which TDP senses its failure. So in another attempt at gaining an upper hand, TDP played the kidnap drama.

TDP councillor Haneef Basha of the 12th ward in Nandyal Municipality joined YCP on Sunday afternoon along with his 300 followers. After which he went home, had lunch and went out citing urgent work. From then on he went missing and he could not be reached on his mobile phone. The family approached YSRCP and after searching the area, started an agitation claiming that Haneef Basha was kidnapped.

But at 10 pm Basha was spotted at TDP leader NMD Farooq’s office. Basha stated that he voluntarily joined YCP in the afternoon and now he is again rejoining TDP.

Whatever transpired between them is a mystery but YSRCP alleges that Basha had been kidnapped by the TDP, cajoled and threatened into rejoining back Chandrababu Naidu’s party.
