Old age home horror 80 year old woman starves to death

An 80-year-old woman who was rescued from an old age home in Kadapa district of Andhra Pradesh on Sunday, July 23, died at RIMS Hospital during treatment on Monday.

Her family abandoned the 80-year-old woman. She was admitted to the Good Heart old age home by some her neighbours.

But the condition in the old age home was just as bad. The New Indian Express reported an inmate saying those who asked for food were shouted at and even thrashed.

District collector T Baburao Naidu said that 51 people were rescued from the old age home and several NGOs are willing to take them in batches of ten. Of the 51, 11 are mentally ill.

The doctors said that the woman died of starvation. She was anaemic, and her legs lost strength due to malnutrition. The woman died alone as her identity could be ascertained as neither the hospital nor the old age home records of hers.

Kadapa Bar Association president Mastan Valli and general secretary Sudhakar Babji visited the hospital to pay their tributes.
