Boycott Police stop Dalits from entering AP village say no entry

The police restricted the villagers from entering Garagaparru village of Palakoderu Mandal in West Godavari district, making the situation tense.

Dalits were boycotted from the village two months ago. On Sunday, after the issue came to light, many people came in support of the Dalits and tried to enter the village. But the police were deployed to restrict the entry of villagers. The police cited prohibitory orders as the reason for not allowing them inside.

This angered the Dalit leaders and supporters and with the slogs Chalo Garagaparru, they tried to talk to the police and then started pushing and pulling each other. This made the situation at the village tense. The police had blocked the Bhimavaram-Tadepalligudem Road, blocking any vehicle from entering the village. They had even set up pickets at Pippara, Yendagandi, Garagaparru and Gollalakoderu villagers.

The Dalit leaders went up to Gollalakoderu but were stopped by the police there. A fight broke out between the police and Dalits.

In fact, the police had not even registered the complaint given by the Dalits against not allowing them to enter the village, two months ago. The news spread fast, and some lawyers met the Dalit leaders and recorded their statements. Lawyers told the media that they have no hopes left in the police so, they will file a case in the High Court.

After all these developments, the police filed a FIR against the people from upper-caste of Garagaparru village at the Palakoderu Police Station. Superintendent of Police Bhaskar Bhushan appointed DSP Nunna Muralikrishna to investigate the case, reported Indian Express.
