Sadhe Ananthalakshmi, a 31-year-old, reportedly committed suicide in less than one month of travelling to Muscat, Oman to work as a housemaid. Ananthalakshmi is a native of Machara, Kapileswaram of East Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh. 

 

The family of Ananthalakshmi is alleging foul play and seeking an investigation into her death, according to a leading daily report. The family is suspecting that she was tortured by her employer in Muscat.

 

Ananthalakshmi left for Oman on March 9 and was in touch with the family members until April 2. The family was informed by the agent who facilitated Ananthalakshmi’s travel that she was found hanging in the house of her employer on April 6. The shocked family then contacted the local agent who also confirmed the same, reported the Times of India. 

 

One of the relatives stated that she deceased expressed her desire to come back to India while talking to the family and they assured her that they will help to bring her back. Her sudden demise has shocked the family; the TOI quoted the family member as saying. 

 

The National Workers Welfare Trust filed a complaint with the Ministry of External Affairs Madad website on April 10. Meanwhile, the National Domestic Workers Welfare Trust has requested the Union Ministry of External Affair to investigate to ascertain the cause of her death. Apart from this, request for clearing her dues and compensation to Ananthalakshmi’s family has also been made, reported TOI.
