Andhra teen transfers father’s retirement fund to FB girlfriend

FollowLove proved a very costly affair for this Andhra teen who got royally duped.
Police in Visakhapatnam were surprised to see this complaint come from a retired railway employee. For years the employee had squirreled away money into his bank account hoping that on retirement he would enjoy a peaceful life. However, his 17-year-old son clearly had different ideas as to what to do with that money.
Rs 14 lakh is what the unwitting teen sent off to his unknown Facebook friend. His friendship with this mystery girl had been too good to be true. The duo had been chatting online for months and never did it occur to the teen that his friendship could end up in something so life changing.
He realised his folly only when his Facebook friend vanished after receiving the money. Surprisingly, the son knew all the bank details of his father’s new bank account. On Sunday (10.40pm-midnight), after the family slept, the teen transferred the amount to his girlfriend’s account in 34 transactions.
According to a report in the New Indian Express, the FB girlfriend had since the beginning groomed him for the crime. She often let in how helpless she was and how she was in dire need of money. Recently, she again mentioned to the teen that she needed some urgent money and he fell for it.
Police are trying to trace the owner of the account now and till now have found out Kolkata as the origin of the bank account.
Police has time and again warned of such smart crooks. They usually bait an unsuspected man or woman in the name of love and try and extort money out of them. Most people fall for such cons, believing that the opposite person is genuinely in need of money and loves them. Digital friends often have led to such complicated situations and in this retired railway employee’s case, his life savings are now being enjoyed by a thief, thanks to the carelessness of his son.
