The centenarian lives in thatched hut close to Tenali and her kitchen is not of granite but the great wide outdoors. After creating a sensation on Youtube with her local food recipes, she has now caught the attention of media world over.
106-year-old Mastanamma had been working in the paddy fields right up to last year and here we talk about retiring at 35. Lots of lessons to learn from this granny.
She lost her husband at the age of 22 and has only one surviving son. Her other four children died of disease earlier on and so she has lived alone for most of her life.
Granny is what grandson Laxman K calls her. A trip to the village, tasting his grandmother’s food and a knowledge of video editing all came together to make granny a star. It is he and friend Srinath Reddy who has been making and posting the videos on YouTube.
The YouTube channel is called Country Foods and has viewers you can only dream of. She has fans world over, a fan from Pakistan even sent her a shawl on her birthday.
The videos are in huge demand and the local Andhra cuisine is showcased beautifully through the recipes. Some of the interesting recipes she has cooked up are Watermelon chicken, Emu egg fry, chicken drumstick,king of egg dosa, chicken in green coconut and the list goes on.
