Canada's Liberal government of Justin Trudeau has been facing flak over delays in the procurement of Covid-19 vaccines despite having shortlisted Moderna and Pfizer to deliver the shots.
And with Moderna and Pfizer supply chains coming under strain globally, Canadians are having second thoughts on whether the two firms would deliver the contracted 6 million doses.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has time and again assured that the country was willing to assist nations that seek the vaccines.
At a meeting of the standing committee on health, Canadian Minister of Public Service and Procurement Anita Anand was caught off-guard when Conservative MP Michelle Rempel Garner sought to know if the government had reached out to Prime Minister Modi for vaccines.
The minister responded by saying that she was in touch with the organisation and countries for doses. She, however, remained silent on whether PM Modi had been approached.
When pressed again, she admits to not having dialled up the Indian Prime Minister.
When Anita Anand said she did not know if PM Trudeau had reached to his Indian counterpart, Michelle Rempel Garner couldn't help but call the situation frightening.
