Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri receives 3 Swaroops of Guru Granth Sahib Ji

The step taken to bring the holy books to New Delhi comes in the wake deteriorating situation in Afghanistan after collapse of Ashraf Ghani-led democratic-elected government, now seized by Taliban.

New Delhi: Senior ministers Hardeep Singh Puri and V Muraleedharan on Tuesday received the Swaroop of Shri Guru Granth Sahib ji (holy book of Sikh) at Delhi airport, which arrived from Afghanistan. 

The step taken to bring the holy books to New Delhi comes in the wake deteriorating situation in Afghanistan after collapse of Ashraf Ghani-led democratic-elected government, now seized by Taliban. 

Under the Taliban rule, it is said that the situation for minorities, women and children become uncertain. 

“..... Some time ago, Guru Granth Sahib Ji, which came to Delhi from Kabul, was blessed to receive and pay homage to the three sacred forms of Guru Granth Sahib Ji,” Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs Hardeep Singh Puri, who is also Sikh said in a tweet. 

Puri was joined by Minister of State for External Affairs V Muraleedharan and BJP national Spokesperson RP Singh. 

“Joined Minister Shri @HardeepSPuri ji at Delhi Airport in receiving Swaroop of Shri Guru Granth Sahib ji arrived from Afghanistan along with evacuees,” Muraleedharan said in a tweet. 

In a video that surfaced on social media, Puri can be seen carrying the Swaroop Shri Guru Granth Sahib ji on the head. 

“I want to start by thanking PM who made it possible to carry out these rescue ops to bring our brethren who are in difficult circumstances there (Afghanistan). Arrangements also being put in place for the remaining people. We're in constant touch with them,” Puri said.

The three Swaroops which have arrived in New Delhi, were taken from different Gurudwaras in the war-ravaged country. 

Along with these, a total of 76 Indians were also evacuated on Tuesday by an special Air India flight. 

So far, over 800 Indians and Afghans have been brought to India by different civil planes and Indian Air Force’s transport aircrafts C-17 and C-130.
