The Prime Minister also referred to Goddess Shailaputri, which means "daughter of the mountains" and is one of the nine incarnations of Durga, who is worshipped on the first day of Navratri. Navratri, the fortunate nine-day festival, begins today, October 7. The first day of Navratri is the Pratipada Tithi, which commemorates the entrance of Goddess Durga.
