Delhi: Corps Commanders of Indian Army and China’s People’s Liberation Army (PLA) have begun their 10th round of talks on Saturday at Moldo to further disengage their troops and machines from other friction points, including Depsang, Gogra and Hot Springs.

The talks began after the two forces completed their disengagement process in Pangong Tso areas as agreed by both sides during 9th round of meeting last month.

As per the agreement, the Chinese side retreated beyond Finger 8 while Indian troops positioned itself at Dhan Singh Thapa near Finger 3 in the north Pangong Tso area of eastern Ladakh. China’s PLA had ingressed till Finger 4. Temporarily, there would be no patrolling by either side till a consensus is built.

India claims its territory till Finger 8 while the Chinese side has been disputing it up to Finger 2. In military parlance, the mountain spur jutting into the lake is referred as Finger.

At today’s meeting, as per the reports, India will be pressing for April 2020 status quo and restoration of patrolling at Depsang.

In the south Pangong Tso, tanks and troops were pulled back which were deployed just 50m away from each other. The sangars, tents and temporary structures were also dismantled. The disengagement process was started on February 10.

On Friday morning, China officially acknowledged that their four soldiers were killed while one was injured in the Galwan Valley clash on June 15 last year. In that clash, 20 Indian troops were killed, including a Colonel-rank officer.

China’s acceptance of casualties comes days after a Russian wire agency reported that 45 Chinese soldiers were killed in the action. Four days back, Northern Command Commander Lt Gen YK Joshi claimed that 60 stretchers were seen carrying Chinese soldiers after the clash.
