Low-Pressure

A low-pressure system over the northwest Bay of Bengal is the main reason for this wet spell. The IMD has confirmed that this system is strengthening as it moves. This has activated the monsoon, bringing much-needed rain to Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. For the next two days, August 24 and 25, expect heavy downpours. This is good news for farmers and residents who have been eagerly awaiting the monsoon's revival.

Heavy Rain Update

With heavy rains set to continue, experts are issuing a warning. The water levels in the Godavari and Krishna rivers are expected to rise, which could cause floods in the surrounding catchment areas. The Telangana Weatherman has advised people to be alert, especially those living in low-lying areas. On Sunday, Nizampet in Sangareddy district recorded the highest rainfall at 6.5 cm (65 mm). Other places like Pitlam in Kamareddy (5.1 cm) and parts of Medchal Malkajgiri district (5.1 cm) also saw heavy showers.

Heavy Rains

The Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority (APSDMA) has also confirmed the low-pressure system in the northwest Bay of Bengal. It has warned that one or two places in North Andhra could see heavy rains on August 24 and 25. The APSDMA has advised fishermen not to go into the sea until Tuesday as it will be rough. The weather will remain cloudy across the state on Monday (August 24). Polavaram, Visakhapatnam, Anakapalli, and Kakinada districts might get moderate rain with lightning, while other districts will see light showers. The disaster agency also warned of gusty winds of 40-50 kmph along the coasts of West Bengal, Odisha, and North Andhra, urging people to take precautions and stay away from trees and large hoardings during the rain.
