8 European Union countries, Switzerland to accept travellers who took Covishield
So far, Austria, Germany, Slovenia, Greece, Iceland, Ireland, Estonia and Spain have confirmed accepting Covishield. Switzerland, which is a Schengen state, has also allowed Covishield as it is WHO-approved.
A day after India urged the European Union to exempt those persons who have taken Made in India vaccines from travel restrictions within its member states, eight EU countries and Switzerland have decided to approve Covishield vaccination certificates.
So far, Austria, Germany, Slovenia, Greece, Iceland, Ireland, Estonia and Spain have confirmed accepting Covishield. Switzerland, which is a Schengen state, has also allowed Covishield as it is WHO-approved.
Estonia, in fact, has reportedly confirmed that it will recognize all the vaccines authorized by the Government of India for those travelling from India.
India had asked EU member states to accept the vaccination certificate issued through the CoWIN portal. The 27-member European bloc will launch the European Union Digital Covid Certificate from July 1. The certificate will facilitate safe free movement during the Covid-19 pandemic within the EU.Â
India had also conveyed to EU member States that New Delhi will institute a reciprocal policy for recognition of the EU Digital Covid Certificate.Â
Sources said that on notification of Covishield and Covaxin for inclusion in the EU Digital Covid Certificate and recognition of Indian CoWIN vaccination certificates, Indian health authorities would reciprocally exempt the concerned EU Member State from mandatorily quarantining all those persons carrying EU Digital Covid Certificate.
