Telangana protectors turn tormentors: Tribal woman raped by 2 forest officials

  • The woman had gone out with her two friends to collect Mahua flower from the forest.
  • While the other two women escaped, the 22-year old woman was trapped and gangraped.
  • She, later, registered a complaint against them at the  Tadvai mandal police station, following which the officers were arrested.

A 22-year old tribal woman what lay ahead her when she went to the forest with her two friends to collect Mahua flowers at night. Residents of Telangana's Jayashankar Bhupalpally district, the women were followed by two contractual forest workers and were attacked. The other two women managed to escape, while this woman was trapped alone. They then raped her in turn. 

The other two Gotti Koya women reached their hamlet in Musalammapenta, near Bhayakkapet village in Tadvai mandal, and informed the tribals about the incident. Later, the victim, along with a group of tribals went to the Tadvai police station on Saturday and lodged a complaint against the two men. Following this, they were arrested. A case under IPC 366, 376 (D) and 506 for rape, kidnapping and criminal intimidation was registered against them, said SP of the Tadvai police station.  The accused have been identified as Santosh and Vijay. 

A police team was also sent to the scene to collect more evidence, said the officer. 

Meanwhile, tribals had staged a demonstration on May 15 at the Bhupalpalli collectorate under the aegis of Human Rights Forum, saying that the men had often raided their village on the pretext of checking whether the villagers have cut trees. They have also been accused of setting huts on fire and misbehaving with women.
