Teenage girl in Hyderabad bleeds to death after Illegal abortion

In a shocking incident, a 19-year-old engineering student, who was reportedly seven months pregnant, died of excessive bleeding following an illegal abortion at a private nursing home in Hyderabad.

Police have filed a case against the concerned doctor Girija Rani and the girl's boyfriend Madhu S, 21, and have taken the two into custody for further interrogation on a complaint by the girl's father, Mahesh Kalluri.

The parents say they were unaware of her pregnancy and approached the police on Monday, August 7.

The police informed that the girl had been in a relationship with Madhu who took her to Anusha Maternity Hospital and Nursing Home in Vanasthalipuram on August 5, where the doctors gave her pills to terminate the pregnancy. Dr Rani had charged Rs 20,000 for the procedure.

However, on Sunday morning, the girl developed complications leading to uncontrolled bleeding. After her condition had deteriorated, Rani asked Madhu to take her to another hospital, where she was declared brought dead.

The girl was a second-year student of an engineering college in Ibrahimpatnam and was living at a private hostel at D N Reddy Nagar. "She had met her photographer boyfriend at a function over a year ago and later entered into a relationship with him. The girl's parents were unaware of her pregnancy or her admission to the hospital for an abortion," said an investigating officer.
