TDP leader telangana student agitation Revanth Reddy

Telangana Telugu Desam Party (TDP) working president Revanth Reddy was arrested by the police when he went in support of the students’ agitation of Telangana State Konda Lakshman Bapuji Horticulture University in Rajendranagar.

He was arrested and taken to the Shamshabad Rural Police Station where TDP workers gathered in huge numbers.

“It is really sad that police forcefully arrested the students at midnight when they were peacefully participating in the agitation,” Revanth said.

The State is ruled by the police and they cannot stop the students’ agitation.

“We came to support the students in their agitation and they arrested us,” Revanth added.

The same CM KCR took the help of students while fighting for the separation of Telangana. Now the same students are being harassed by the police, he said.

“If your son K Taraka Ramarao can go without any security to any university and can come back safe, then you would understand the problems of the students,” he challenged.

The Horticulture Department has 400 vacancies, which the students are requesting the government to be filled. The students allege that the government is not taking any initiative to fill the posts and so they have been agitating since one month.

One girl student talking to the media vented out her agitation saying, “How can police enter a ladies hostel at 2:30 am in the night and arrest a student beating and dragging her? How can they harass the other girl students?

“They have arrested and taken some boys students but till now no one knows their whereabouts. One student Sanga Reddy is on fast unto death. He was also arrested but no whereabouts about him or about the others who were arrested.

“The university officials have cut off our water and power supply and are harassing us in every means. They lock our doors not even considering our basic needs and that we are women and have many problems.

“We thought that a separate Telangana state would benefit us with better job opportunities. But we were given false hopes. If this was the condition, then we would not have fought for a separate state.

“We were peacefully agitating for our rights since one month but not even one leader came to enquire about our demands. But police come and harass us. Are we criminals or terrorists to be harassed like this? They threaten us with cases, FIR is filed on two students and ten students are under hit list.

“Isn’t it the responsibility of the government to provide employment to the students? When we fight for our rights we are being harassed irrespective of being girls or boys. To whom do we tell our problem when the officials are torturing us and the government is turning a deaf ear?”

The students also warned the government of dire consequences if they continue with their high-handedness.
