The President of India Pranab Mukherjee presented the Gallantry Awards on March 20 at the Rashtrapati Bhavan, New Delhi and one of the Sena Medal recipient is Major Lakshmi Veera Naresh Olety of 27th battalion of Madras regiment. 

 

Major Naresh from Hyderabad received the award for his extraordinary role as part of the team that executed the surgical strike across the Line of Control on September 28, 2016. The nature of this operation was such that even his family had little knowledge about his participation, reported a leading national daily.

 

Major Naresh joined the National Defence Academy after his father encouraged him. In the month of January, Telangana state government announced that it will present ₹30 lakh to the recipients of Sena Medal and Andhra Pradesh government also announced ₹10 lakh. According to the Times of India report, the director of Sainik welfare Col P Ramesh Kumar is waiting to receive the official document from Indian Army headquarter.
