Osmania University students still wait for the promised job

Osmania University is world famous for its rich intellectual heritage. It gave to the world many great personalities, intellectuals and freedom fighters. It was common belief that Osmania suffered during the united state of Andhra Pradesh. The first seeds of dissent for a separate Telangana were on the grounds of Osmania and the movement was an inspiration to whole Telangana.

But after Telangana came into existence, the condition of Osmania has worsened. Its condition is like falling from the pan to the fire. The promises during the time of agitation took a backseat but OU students are still hopeful of employment.

An intense agitation for employment in OU was seen two months back.  TRS MP Balka Suman, MLA Gadari Kishore, Mayor Bonthu Rammohan, Members of BC Commission Anjaneya Goud, Corporation Chairman Pidamarthi Ravi, Present Telangana State Technology Services Chairman Chirumilla Rakesh and other TRS leaders organised a meeting in a hotel with students and leaders of the agitation. They announced employment and also assured of their support to the students. But the situation in OU has taken a u-turn.

There were no announcements of employment but the administration body of OU announced its intention of vacating the hostels from non-boarders. The police have intensified their security at the hostels.

JAC Chairman of the unemployed Koturi Manavata Roy warned the OU administration against terrorising the poor and the unemployed in the name of non-boarder. He questioned the TRS officials of their non-boadership in the OU hostels till recently. The main attempt behind this vacating of hostels is to throttle the voices of agitation. CM’s non-voicing in the Osmania centenary celebrations has become a cause for the intensity of subjugation. That’s the reason notifications for employment are not being released and the released notifications are in controversies.

The last CM during the Telangana agitation Kiran Kumar Reddy was intending to announce 50 thousand jobs but the then leaders of agitation objected to it. At least some of us would have secured jobs if that announcement was released. They warned Kiran Kumar Reddy stating that they themselves would recruit once Telangana was achieved. Some seniors share their despondency towards their unemployed state blaming the Telangana leaders for hindering the job announcements.

The student participants of later half of Telangana agitation are still without employment. They now reside as non-boarders in OU. They participated in the agitation stating that they would go home only when Telangana was achieved. Now that it was achieved, they seek jobs so as to leave for their own regions. KCR announced one lakh jobs where one lakh families would flourish when Telangana came into existence. But now the scene has changed and CM has reversed his words.
