Flouting medical standards of operation theaters is something that Osmania Hospital has set a record in. A sneak peek into the Operation Theater I of the Osmania Hospital will send chills down your spine when you see doctors operating on patients in the dark. According to inside sources, the standard surgical lights have not been working for the past three months. 

Incidentally, the situation can lead to dangerous consequences where patients could be injured. There is a lone LED bulb hanging above the patient that barely gives light. It is yet to be figured why hospital authorities are overlooking such a grave medical negligence since LED lights do not give the required amount of light required for surgery. And when the visibility is low, it is even  more dangerous to work under this light. 

The operation theater hosts surgeries such as piles, hernia, splenectomy, cholecystectomy and others. The operation theater has three units in the second floor of the hospital's in-patient block. Inside sources said, "The use of LED bulb to perform surgeries is not advisable for patients. Let’s say a surgery involves finding the source of blood leakage and under low visibility, time taken to spot that source is more. Thus, there will be excess loss of blood. Besides, there is a possibility that other internal parts might get injured when a body is surgically opened to perform a surgery. All of this increases the chances of a patient’s morbidity."

Meanwhile, when the condition of the operation theater was brought to the notice of the Director of Medical Education Dr Ramesh Reddy, he said he would visit the hospital and look into the issue.
