Hyderabad Osmania University secures NAAC A plus grade
  • Against all odds without the support of the government OU secured NAAC A plus accreditation
  • It secured A category in 2008 but lost its rank in 2013

Hyderabad Osmania University (OU) got A plus grade from the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) on Tuesday. A peer team from the NAAC had earlier visited the university and recommended for this certification.

The NAAC 2017 Standing Summit which was held in New Delhi on Tuesday accorded the grades to 11 institutes in Telangana. JNTUH, Kakatiya University and others colleges got A grades. NAAC accorded the grades based on the institute faculty, labs and the college infrastructure.

Osmania University Vice-Chancellor, Prof Ramachandran, while congratulating the entire Faculty, non-teaching staff, student and research scholars for their cooperation and concerted efforts expressed happiness over the announcement.

Apart from universities, three government colleges and six private colleges in the state got the NAAC accreditation. Based on the grades of NAAC, the universities and colleges will get funds from the University Grants Commission (UGC).

From the time Telangana became a separate State, a big rift rose between TRS (Telangana Rashtra Samithi) government and OU when CM K Chandrasekhar Rao announced his intention to use OU for his double-bedroom houses.

Even after three years, the government failed to fill 50 per cent teaching and non-teaching jobs. The student scholarships, mess bills and fee reimbursement were not sanctioned. Even in such a condition, OU succeeded in securing A plus grade.

OU JAC (Joint Action Committee) official representative Bala Lakshmi said that they thought that OU would flourish under the TRS government in a separate Telangana but that still remains a dream. But the OU working staff and students tried hard and saved the pride of OU. She said that the students studied hard in spite of agitations.
