Hyderabad Metro to be prolonged by another 17 months

Hyderabad Metrorail is one of the most prestigious projects in the country, with updated technology, the pride project of Bhagyanagar is still being dragged and taking time to complete.

The deadline for the 5-year project of three corridors ended on July 4th but since the work is still pending, the Telangana government extended the deadline to November 2018. Except for the 5 kms distance in Old city and the one km distance between Hitec city and Rayadurgam, the government made a fresh agreement stating that the 66.56 kms must be completed before the deadline.

On the other hand, the government ordered L&T Metrorail Hyderabad and HMRL to make required arrangements to start the metro in a few months. The government ordered that Corridor – 1 (from Miyapur to LB Nagar: 29 kms), and Corridor – 3 (from Nagol to Hitec City: 27 kms) to be completed by the end of this year.

After studying the technical details submitted by Construction Company L&T Metrorail Hyderabad Limited, independent engineer Louis Berger and HMRL, the government senior officials and construction company’s representatives met and discussed the matter after which the government decided to extend the deadline.

After the discussions with the government, the Hyderabad Metrorail MD N.V.S. Reddy released a bulletin on Tuesday. He said that due to the court cases when collecting properties and other reasons led to the delay of the project. The government took this into account and decided to extend the deadline to another 17 months.

The government’s Principal Secretary S.P. Singh in a special task force meeting held on Monday ordered the GHMC Commissioner, Hyderabad and Rangareddy district collectors to look into the property claims hindering the completion of the metro. He instructed them to collect land in Sultan bazaar, Nampally and other places and speedily extend the roads.
