Hyderabad man found hanging in Saudi police station

A 30-year-old man, Vadithya Srinivas, was found hanging inside a Saudi police station on February 27 this year and his devastated parents are demanding investigation into the matter. He was reportedly arrested for traffic rule violation and was detailed in the local police station.

Srinivas’ body was found inside the Al Morabaa police station of Riyadh. According to the forensic report, the cause of his death is ‘cardiac and respiration arrest as a result of suffocation by hanging’, reported a leading daily.

His body is expected to arrive in Hyderabad on April 5. The family of Srinivas resides in Ibrahimpur of Pargi mandal in Vikarabad district. The family is suspecting foul play and the Times of India quoted his brother Venkatesh as saying that mobile and wallet of Srinivas is missing from the Al Morabaa police station.

Venkatesh also contacted his brother’s friends in Saudi asking them to file a complaint in the same police station regarding custodial death of Srinivas. However, the police are yet to take any action on this complaint. He also met district collector of Vikarabad and handed over a petition requesting him to take up the issue with ministry of external affairs and Indian embassy in Riyadh about taking to the Saudi authorities and insisted on a fair investigation.

Meanwhile, the Indian embassy in Riyadh said that the family of the deceased can approach and file an official complaint to Bureau of Investigation and Public Prosecution in Riyadh. The embassy clarified that as per local government’s instruction in case of suspected suicide or murder an investigation is conducted and official report is issued.

But, the agencies do not conduct a re-investigation merely on the basis of any doubt. The family must provide some prove of accusation against a particular person to initiate a re-investigation.
