WhatsApp Status feature you loved is back How to get started

WhatsApp had introduced a new Status feature that didn't go down well with majority users. What could be possibly called an outcome of public demand, the old text status feature is back. It is being rolled out only to Android users, and there is no word on its availability for iOS users.

Firstly, users will have to update to Android v2.17.107 from Google Play Store. Under Settings, one will find the 'About and phone number' tab wherein you will find the option to add text status. So, you have to head to the app, tap on the three dots on the upper right side and access the the 'About and Phone number' section.

Under this, you can add your text Status. You will find your last update, which you had posted before Whatsapp introduced the new feature. However, in line with the previous rumours, the update doesn't mean you cannot use the new Status feature. The new feature stays.

Those not in the know-how, you may have noticed a new Status tab on WhatsApp. The company had introduced it to allow users to share photos and videos as WhatsApp Status. iPhone, Android and Windows users could send photos, videos and GIFs through Status.  You can control who can see your Status update. In WhatsApp’s privacy settings, you can choose who will receive your update. You can select from the following three options: “my contacts,” “contacts except...” and “only share with...”

You will also be able to see who has viewed your Status update by tapping the eye icon at the bottom. When you view someone’s Status update, there is a reply button, so you can comment on any photo, video, or GIF. Once you tap reply, your message will be sent in a WhatsApp chat with a thumbnail of the Status update.
