Taxi aggregator, Uber has decided to bar users from availing their service and even deactivate app of those who abuse drivers, verbally threatens cabbies, damaging car or phone, spilling drinks and food intentionally, smoke inside cabs, vomiting inside the car for excessive drinking.

As a response to the ongoing strike by the taxi drivers, Uber has issued ‘community guidelines’ for the users of its app and also for the drivers. This is the first time that such a directive has been issued in India. Though the guideline covers both users and drivers, but the company is particularly concerned about the app users’ behaviour.

Uber stated that some riders leave their trash, vomit in the back seats due to excessive alcohol consumption, ask to break the speed limit to avoid delays.

"This kind of poor behaviour is not OK, which is why we will take action against passengers who are rude, abusive or violent," an Uber release said.

The community guideline has been released in all 26 cities covered by Uber service and issues in 11 languages.

Following are the guidelines for riders:

1.    No abusive language/gestures.

2.    No damaging car, vandalising phone, intentionally spilling food or drink, smoke inside the vehicle, throw up inside cab due to excessive alcohol consumption.

3.    No physical contact with fellow riders and the driver.

4.    No unwanted contact to fellow rider or driver once the trip gets over.

5.    No asking for overspeeding.

Under the new guideline, Uber drivers can lose their access to Uber if the quality of service they provide suffers. The quality will be judged on the basis of ratings by the riders, cancellation and also acceptance rates. The average of rating, cancellation, and acceptance differ from city to city.

Following are the guidelines for drivers:

1.    Safe driving, following GPS tracker, allows riders to share the trip details with their family and friends.

2.    No contacting riders after trip get over.

3.    No provoking users to cancel rides.

4.    No abusive language or gesture.

5.    No talking over phone while driving.

6.    No drink and drive.

7.    No anonymous pickups and no accepting illegal street hail during rides.
