Uber brings big changes: Tipping and 'pay for wait'

FollowSo, Uber has started new tipping option, within the app, that will allow riders in about 100 cities in the US and Canada to use this in-app feature. Drivers will soon be prompted to choose whether they want to accept the tip or not. With this move, Uber goes against the grain, as it has stayed away from this feature, though rivals like Lyft have implemented it.
According to TheVerge, a letter written by Uber to drivers reads, "Some changes will be big, some will be small — all will be the changes you’ve asked for.”
Besides, the company also plans to implement its all-new 'pay for wait' program that will charge customers a fee if the driver is asked to wait for more than two minutes on arriving at the pickup location. Now, this feature was being tested for a while now. Earlier, Uber would give riders a five-minute window.
The changes come soon after Uber CEO and founder Travis Kalanick stepped down from the position. Rumours were rife that Uber CEO Travis Kalanick is under investor pressure to step down as the CEO. From sexism to criminal probes, the work culture at Uber has been under the scanner for some time now.
Now it is to be seen how this impacts its Indian market and whether Uber will bring these new features to the Indian market.
