Samsung Gear S3 smartwatch launched in India

Samsung has launched the Gear S3 in India. Just like the S2, it will be available in two variants - Classic and Frontier - starting 18 January. The Classic aims at a more refined, minimalistic look, while the Frontier sports a rugged look. They will be available via all leading Samsung sales channels at a price of Rs 28,500.

“With the Gear S3, we continue to build on our wearables heritage of offering diverse choices to enhance consumers’ unique lifestyles,” said Manu Sharma, Vice President, Mobile Business, Samsung India. “With the new Gear S3, we expand our Gear collection and introduce not only a great smartwatch, but a great watch. With smart capabilities and sophisticated, elegant design, the Gear S3 marks a significant addition to our smartwatch portfolio.”

The S3 models come with support for IP68 water resistance standards, military-grade durability and feature Corning Gorilla Glass SR+. The case has been crafted with high-end watch grade steel 316L. It has an Always-on Super AMOLED 1.3-inch display.

The Gear S3 also offers ‘hyper-connectedness’ with the Remote Connectivity feature, allowing the Gear S3 to receive phone notifications way beyond the limits of BT or Wi-Fi. The built-in GPS functionality will help users monitor their daily fitness activities while the Alti/barometer and Speedometer allow users to track everything from altitude and atmospheric pressure to sudden changes in weather, distance travelled and speed.

Meanwhile, Google is expected to launch two new smartwatches this year running Android Wear 2.0. They will come sans Google branding, but there is no word on the manufacturer yet.
