Jio caught up in data leak battle, report says user data compromised

  • If you are a Jio user, your personal data could be at risk.
  • The leaked details include name, mobile number and even Aadhaar details, among other things.

Reliance Jio users Aadhaar and other details leaked

While Jio has been offering lucrative deals to users and Aadhaar being one of the mandatory documents, recent reports claim that your personal data may not be safe. Folks at FoneArena have revealed that user data, including their own, has been leaked on a website named magicapk.

Leaked details reportedly include the user's complete name, mobile number, email-id, SIM Activation Date and even Aadhaar number. The report further alleges that this could be the biggest data breach so far. Needless to say, Jio has about 120 million consumers in India, and their personal data could be at risk.

Currently, the magicapk site has been suspended. But, there is no word on how data has been leaked. It has mostly affected those who bought the SIm during the preview offer, and recent ones aren't reflecting.

In response to FoneArena report, Reliance Jio replied:

"We have come across the unverified and unsubstantiated claims of the website and are investigating it. Prima facie, the data appears to be unauthentic. We want to assure our subscribers that their data is safe and maintained with highest security. Data is only shared with authorities as per their requirement. We have informed law enforcement agencies about the claims of the website and will follow through to ensure strict action is taken."

Aadhaar is the unique identity number given to citizens in India, which is linked to your biometric details and other data, and compromising such data is a threat to a user's privacy.
