Reliance Jio launches 4G service for public

Reliance Jio has just launched its long-awaited 4G service for the public on a test basis. The only pre-requisite is that the service can be availed only through SIMs and LYF handsets bought from Reliance group.

You will need an invite from any employee of Reliance Industries group before you can purchase the SIM with 4G capability and activate it on the LYF handset that's being sold by Reliance Digital, The Indian Express reported.

The scheme enables any Reliance employee to invite up to 10 people for the SIM and handset kit which includes access to unlimited 4G mobile internet and phone calls service for 90 days. The invite costs you ₹200 for activating the services.

The LYF handset price starts at ₹5,599 and goes up to ₹19,499 per unit. Owners of the handset will also be eligible for free unlimited access to Jio's 4G mobile apps like JioBeats, JioMag, Jio Drive, Jio On-demand, Jio Play and Jio  Drive for 90 days.

Over five lakh users are ascertained to be part of the Reliance Jio's 4G trial scheme while the average monthly data consumption per user is estimated to have crossed 18GB and average voice usage in the first month have reportedly crossed 250 minutes.

The company is expected to launch a full-fledged version of the scheme for commercial purpose in the coming months.
