Reliance Jio Google working on low cost 4G VoLTE Android phone

News has it that Google has teamed up with Reliance Jio to launched low-cost 4G VolTE devices in the country.

A report by The Hindu Business Line revealed that the device will be jointly developed by Google and Reliance Jio, and will be launched by the end of this year. The device will be backed by Google and not manufactured. This is believed to help give it credibility.

During his India visit, Google's Sundar Pichai had called for the need of Rs 2000 smartphones in India. In the past, the company has tried to bring its Android one devices to India, and failed. The device will come pre-loaded with Jio apps and is aimed at helping Jio increase data adoption by introducing credible budget devices.

Indian government had also asked local phone makers to build smartphones priced under Rs 2000. The aim is to push Internet-enabled devices to rural areas. We've also been hearing about Reliance Jio’s rumoured move to bring 4G VoLTE to feature phones priced as low as Rs 999. Now, it is to be seen what both companies can together offer.
