Here is how IIT students made fastest sports car ever
Â
A group of students from IIT Bombay (IIT-B) have designed a sports car, named ORCA, for a formula student race to be held in the United Kingdom. They will be competing against 100 similar models from across the globe.Â
Â
The Formula Student car competition is annually held in the United Kingdom to judge electric and internal combustion engines.
Â
The car, which can go from 0-100 kmph in 3.47 seconds, was launched by IIT-B students along with NRB Bearings, Tata Motors and CEAT Tyres as their major sponsors.
Â
Watch the video to know how was the car assembled:
Â
In an interview with the Times of India, the ORCA team leader, Rishabh Kappasia, a student of Engineering Physics, said, "Not only is its acceleration a record, it is the first time we have had a special steel-frame chassis with a carbon-fibre manufactured body, which not only reduces the weight but also stabilises the car at high speeds."
Â
The IIT-B students claimed that the car was faster than any other sports car designed by Porsche, Tesla or Audi.
Â
Manthan Mahajan, a student of IIT-B, who is expected to drive the ORCA at the competition in UK said, the light weight of the car was the key to increase its speed and sustainability.
Â
The IIT-B team will be participating in this contest for the sixth consecutive year. The team already holds a record for winning the design improvement category three years in a row. Â
Â
A similar car was designed by the IIT-B students in 2013, named EVo2, which ran on electric charge.
Â
IIT Bombay Racing, a community of IIT-B also released a video of EV02 on their official YouTube channel.
