OnePlus 5T launch today India price new features and everything else

OnePlus is set to launch the OnePlus 5T in New York today. The launch starts at 9.30PM IST and OnePlus will live stream the event on its website (https://oneplusstore.in/event).

A recent unboxing of the phone leaked online gave a detailed look at the phone and its specs. OnePlus 5T does have a design change in that it looks broader and slightly bigger than OnePlus 5. The bezels are receded to the top and home button is gone, while a circular fingerprint scanner is placed at the back.

An image of top portion of the phone was also leaked by tipster Evan Blass that shows the thickness of bezels, and the fact that the phone doesn’t come with dual front cameras.

As per the specifications, the display is a 6-inch AMOLED panel that sports an 18:9 aspect ratio, but the resolution is still unchanged (1080x2160). The build of the phone is identical and company CEO Pete Lau has also revealed the upcoming phone will not feature wireless charging hence a meta unibody design is evident.

Specifications

Apart from a bigger 6.0 inch display, there won’t be many changes on the OnePlus 5T. It will be powered by Snapdragon 835 chip with both 6/8GB RAM and 64/128 GB respective storage variants available to buy.

The phone will run Android 7.1.1 as per the leaks but it will be upgraded to Android 8.0 Oreo. There will be a dual camera setup on the rear of the phone, but recent leaks claim it will be better than that on the OnePlus 5. It could either be a 16MP+20MP dual camera setup with wide angle and telephoto camera combo or two 20MP cameras with Monochrome and RGB sensor combo. At front the camera remains the same at 16MP, while the presence of a 3.5mm audio jack was confirmed by the company.

The leaked video also claims that the phone will come with facial recognition for authentication and unlock, like the iPhone X. Offcouse the Apple phone has a much more sophisticated version of it, the one on OnePlus could be more like what we saw on the Samsung Galaxy S8.

Like the OnePlus 5, there will be Dash charging on the smartphone, but the 5T is also said to come with a bigger 3450mAh battery. A bigger screen does require a bigger battery and not putting one results is a puny backup, like with Galaxy S8 or other bezel-less phones.

OnePlus 5T is also rumoured to support global 4G LTE on over 34 networks.

India Price and availability

CEO Lau hinted on Chinese social media website Weibo that the OnePlus 5T will be priced around CNY 4,000 which translates to Rs. 39,000. He gave another hint of higher price tag with this tweet -- "Cost of smartphone components is rising, but phones are also getting better. OnePlus users will appreciate what's coming."

But a leaked report citing confidential documents revealed the price to be the same as the OnePlus 5T. If that is true, the only way to do it without cannibalising the sales of OnePlus 5 is by replacing the 8GB OnePlus 5 with a 6GB OnePlus 5T in the price ladder.

OnePlus 5T will go on sale exclusively on Amazon on November 21 at 4.30PM IST via a flash sale. The open sale will begin from November 28 via Amazon India, OnePlusStore.in, and OnePlus shops.
