- The price of OnePlus 5T will cross the Rs 40,000 mark, putting the phone in the same arena as Samsung, HTC and Sony in the Android space
There have been several rumours surrounding the next OnePlus smartphone, the OnePlus 5T. A successor to the famous OnePlus 5, the new smartphone is said to come with bezel-less design added to the propriety high specs to price package that the company usually offers. While most of the information has been kept under wraps, recent tweets by its official Twitter handle hint the price and launch of the device.
"Guess which city we're going to party in for the #OnePlus5T launch! [sic]," the company tweeted Sunday, with a photo suggesting a New York launch. Following in the footsteps of Samsung, OnePlus is making sure OnePlus 5T gets a grand launch. It could also have some US-specific announcements to make.
OnePlus CEO Pete Lau announced via Chinese social media platform Weibo that OnePlus 5T will be priced under CNY 4,000 (about Rs 39,000). In China, 8GB OnePlus 5 costs CNY 3,499 which has an official price tag of Rs 37,999 in India. So the price of OnePlus 5T will easily cross the Rs 40,000 mark, putting the phone in the same arena as Samsung, HTC and Sony in the Android space and its ‘flagship killer’ tagline in danger.
The company had earlier hinted that OnePlus 5T will be of the same size as the OnePlus 5, albeit having a bigger screen. OnePlus’s sister company Oppo recently launched the Oppo R11S in the international market and the upcoming OnePlus 5T may look no different. That is because the OnePlus 5 comes dangerously close to looking like the Oppo R11.
There will not be a big change in the specs and that is evident from GFXBench listings leaked recently. It reveals OnePlus 5T would have a 6.0 inch display with a resolution of 1080x2160 pixels (fullHD+) with an 18:9 aspect ratio, unlike previous leaks that claimed the display resolution might be bumped up to UHD. It will also be powered by Snapdragon 835 chip with both 6/8GB RAM and 64/128 GB respective storage variants.
The phone will run Android 7.1.1 as per the listing, same as that running on the OnePlus 5. There will be a dual camera setup on the rear of the phone, but it could be a similar 16MP+20MP wide angle plus telephoto camera combo. There is an upgrade at the front though, as the OnePlus 5T is said to come with 20MP selfie shooter, while a 3.5mm audio jack was confirmed by the company.
