Nokia Returns: Nokia 6 smartphone vs competition
- Nokia 6 marks the re-entry of the once-celebrated phone brand.
- It runs Android OS and packs in 4GB RAM.
- But, can it withstand the fierce competition?
After a long hiatus, HMD Global is now out with its first Nokia-branded smartphone dubbed Nokia 6. Nokia's re-entry into the smartphone world brings what most of its loyal users wanted - an Android-run Nokia.
The Nokia 6 sports a unibody design built with 6000 series aluminum. Needless to say, Nokia was known for its build quality and durability. And, it also adheres to the latest phablet trend, sporting a larger 5.5-inch display with Full HD resolution. It is covered by a 2.5D curved glass.
Under the hood, it gets a Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 octa-core processor clock at 1.4GHz and coupled with 4GB of RAM. It also gets 64GB expandable onboard storage. On the camera front, you will get a 16-megapixel rear snapper and an 8-megapixel front-facing camera. The camera comes with f/2.0 aperture and PDAF support. Finally, the device comes powered by a 3000mAh battery.
How it fares against the competition
Firstly, the Nokia 6 phone is limited to the China market, for now. There is no word on it coming to other regions. However, considering India is the second largest and one of the most lucrative markets for phone makers, we hope the device will be released here too. Nokia is one brand that majority early phone users in India have a nostalgic connect with.
However, a lot has changed during the time Nokia was off the market. For instance, Nokia 6 is priced at CNY 1699, which is roughly Rs 17,000. In that price bracket rather even lower, there are phones offering much more in terms of specs, features and performance.

We've put it in the ring with some of the popular phones in the Rs 10,000 to Rs 20,000 price bracket, to find out if the company can withstand the stiff competition. As you look at the chart, it is clear that Nokia is at par when it comes to the display size, resolution, camera or to some extent the battery, but it is powered by a rather older processor. It may not be able to handle applications as efficiently as others. Overall, value it offers users at that price tag could easily turn into a roadblock for the company.
