Maruti Suzuki hikes car prices by up to ₹8,014

  • The price hike is in the range of ₹1,500 to ₹8,014
  • Other car makers like Mahindra, Nissan, Toyota Kirloskar, Renault and more have also announced a price rise this year
Maruti Suzuki hikes car prices across its range in January 2017

India’s largest carmaker  Maruti Suzuki India Ltd has hiked prices of its entire product range by up to ₹8,014 with immediate effect. The price hike is in the range of ₹1,500 to ₹8,014 (ex-showroom, Delhi) across models, Maruti Suzuki said in a statement. “The hike in car prices is because of increase in commodity, transportation and administrative costs,” it added.

 

Maruti sells a range of models—from hatchback Alto 800 to crossover S-Cross—priced between ₹2.45 lakh and ₹12.03 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).

 

In August last year, Maruti had hiked the prices of its compact SUV Vitara Brezza by ₹20,000 and that of premium hatchback Baleno by ₹10,000. On a select range of models, the price hike was between ₹1,500 and ₹5,000.

Last year, various car makers like Hyundai Motor India, Mahindra and Mahindra, Nissan India, Toyota Kirloskar, Renault India, Mercedes-Benz India and Tata Motors had announced hikes in prices of their vehicles from January citing rise in input costs and adverse impact of foreign exchange rates.

 

Back in January 2016, the company had hiked the prices by upto ₹12,000, then in August 2016 it had again hiked prices by ₹20,000. Again post the Budget 2016 and with the infrastructure cess on automobiles, Maruti Suzuki had hiked the ex-showroom prices of its models by up to ₹34,494. The price hike announced by the company was in the range of ₹1,441 to ₹34,494 across its models.
