IRCTC PRO Sandip Dutta has confirmed in a public statement that "there has been no hacking attempt on the site and a high-level committee has been formed to probe the matter."

“We have requested the cyber cell to give us details of the so-called data theft,” Dutta confirmed to the Indian Express.

Earlier reports indicated that the Maharashtra cell had informed IRCTC about a potential data theft through its Indian portal. Critical information about lakhs of users was feared to be compromised as the site caches personal data of consumers such as PAN card, credit or debit card details for booking tickets online.

"IG Maharashtra police cyber cell has informed IRCTC about Data theft from its website but the details of the said data are still to be shared with IRCTC. IRCTC will be issuing a detailed press note later today," ANI quoted IRCTC PRO in an earlier report.
